For Immediate Release — Kampala, Uganda | Saturday, 25 April 2026
SafariShare today officially launched as Uganda's first multimodal transport marketplace, bringing together online bus ticketing, a multi-operator directory, mobile money payments, and a full bus management system under one platform.
Founded in 2019, SafariShare began as a carpooling platform connecting private drivers with passengers on shared intercity routes. The platform grew to over 10,000 members, filled more than 7,000 empty seats in private cars, and facilitated 600,000 kilometres of shared journeys, avoiding an estimated 1,200 tons of CO2 emissions. Today's launch builds on that foundation with the infrastructure to serve Uganda's transport sector at scale.
SafariShare gives commuters access to a growing directory of verified bus operators in one place, with transparent pricing, live schedules, and real passenger reviews. Payment is handled via mobile money, supporting MTN, Airtel, and mPesa, meeting Ugandans where they already transact.
Operators gain a dedicated management system covering route and schedule management, seat availability, passenger tracking, and revenue accountability. The platform replaces fragmented, informal processes with a single dashboard, helping operators run leaner and more reliable services.
For travellers without smartphones or internet access, SafariShare supports USSD, enabling bookings and ticket verification from any mobile phone with no data connection required.
SafariShare's next major phase is the launch of a registered agent network. Agents will be onboarded across Uganda to make bookings on behalf of customers, extending the marketplace's reach into communities where direct digital access remains limited. Each agent earns a commission on every booking, settled via mobile money, creating a new income stream tied directly to the growth of the platform.
The agent network transforms SafariShare from a booking tool into a livelihood platform, one that creates economic opportunity while solving a real access problem for millions of Ugandans.
"SafariShare is built to bridge the gap between traditional transport systems and digital innovation," said Beatrice Birimuye, General Manager. "We have spent years understanding how Ugandans move and what they need. Today we are delivering the infrastructure to meet that need at scale."
Bus ticketing is the foundation, not the ceiling. SafariShare's roadmap expands the marketplace to cover every way Ugandans need to move people and goods: carpooling for shared long-distance travel, special hire for dedicated point-to-point trips, self-drive vehicle rental, and parcel delivery using the existing bus network. A native mobile app is targeted for Q3 2026, and SafariShare routes will be listed on Google Maps Transit.
Any transport need, a bus seat, a shared ride, a hired vehicle, a parcel, handled in one place, by one platform, built for Uganda.
SafariShare is a beneficiary of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) E-Booster Program and operates in partnership with the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. SafariShare is also a winner of the AFD Digital Challenge 2021, the Agence Française de Développement's annual competition recognising African startups driving climate and biodiversity impact. The platform is a Travelier Group distribution partner, connecting SafariShare routes to millions of travellers across Bookaway, 12Go, and Travelier's global network.
